TBNZ Statement on New Bowling Ball Specifications
USBC New Bowling Ball Specifications
ARLINGTON, Texas – Following three years of research on how technology has affected the sport of bowling, the United States Bowling Congress Equipment and Specifications Committee has established new specifications designed to sustain the playing field both currently and in the future.
A new specification has been established for the oil absorption rate of bowling ball coverstocks, the first time such a specification has been set, and a specification to eliminate balance holes while increasing static weight allowances also has been approved.
On June 16th, the USBC released a further statement noting that their Equipment and Specifications Committee have revised the implementation dates for the new bowling ball specifications to begin from 1st August 2018 and end 1st August 2020 where transition is complete.
Tenpin Bowling New Zealand has received inquiries regarding these statements and TBNZ shall wait until it hears from World Bowling whom were discussing the suggested changes to ball specification at a meeting held in Detroit USA 20th July.
At present TBNZ remains adherent to the existing specification prior to the USBC specification to eliminate balance holes.
Once we have information from World Bowling TBNZ shall release a statement regarding its position on the changes.
The full USBC statements can be viewed here and here.
