New Zealand Tenpin Bowling Travel League Celebrates 30 Years In Existence

This will be celebrated in Hastings on the  4th & 5th of March 2017

The New Zealand Tenpin Bowling Travel League was started in 1987 in Napier by teams from Wellington led by Ailsa Gill (deceased), Hastings led by Joe McCardell and Palmerston North led by Maurie Abrahams (deceased). Petone Tenpin Bowling Club was asked to join them to make up an even number of teams.  They played in Napier in an old tin shed until a new bowling centre was opened in Hastings. Two years later Ailsa changed the Wellington teams name to Capital City to allow other teams to join from Wellington and a couple of years after this Palmerston North changed their name to Rose City. Over the years another 6 teams joined bringing our number to 10. This now includes Port View, Kapiti, Kapi Mana, Motueka, Wanganui and Harbour City.

We still have two foundation members playing, Marge Milgate (Petone) and Joe McCardell (Hastings). We are a social league with each team consisting of eight people (4 Men & 4 Women) with each team being host team on a 2.5 year cycle. Our current Executive of NZTBTL are:

  • Vince Bloomfield – President
  • Marion Gunn – Secretary/Treasurer
  • Ian Klein – League Captain
  • Bev Stern – Vice League Captain
